The ABC Expo 2011 AWARDS.

Thats right, I am totally doing an award show. And by ‘show’, I mean ‘post’. And by ‘awards’, I do mean ‘awards’. Not everything is a metaphor, people.

These are just my personal, unpaid opinions on what I saw and thought of the ABC Expo 2011. So, without further ado:

- BEST EXHIBITQuinny. So well laid out, so colorful, so many great new things to look at and play with. Their wall of Mico’s was enough to win this category….

- MOST “I don’t get it” EXHIBIT: Bugaboo. Bug had a HUGE exhibit, naturally, they are a huge (and wonderful) company. I didn’t really understand much of the exhibit though, they had an area which looked like a dress up corner (for you, not your Bugaboo) and then a super long table with absolutely nothing on it but all white spectacles.

- NICEST REPS/ EMPLOYEES: UppaBaby. 4Moms, Kinderwagon, Guzzie and Guss, iCandy and BuggyLove. All eager to chat, open and honest and very sweet. Thank you to you all for being so welcoming!

- RUDEST EMPLOYEE: Chicco. The PR rep who walked me through the display was lovely, but their display was closed off and they had a sort of welcome area at the entrance. I walked up to say hello and a Chicco guy was SO incredibly rude and demeaning it turned me off the whole thing. He wasn’t a PR guy (“Let me get someone from PR for you”) so I can only assume he was a Chicco employee/ exec. Let this be a lesson: Sometimes the people who seem little and inconsequential, have websites with lots of lovely readers. Be nice to everyone.

- POINTS FOR COOL: BOB, Graco and Orbit Baby for having their media press packets on adorable custom flash drives. 4Moms for every product they make.

- POINTS FOR YUM: Lots of people had snacks. Teutonia/ Aprica/ Graco had this amazing display with lots of candies, fresh cookies and Pelligrino. I spent an hour stretched out on a lush chaise resting and nibbling. Oh, and writing, OF COURSE. What kind of media rep do you take me for?!?!?!

- BEST STROLLERS IN SHOW: Guzzie and Guss 1+1 (more to come later, it deserves its own write up). iCandy Peach Jogger (a real jogging stroller that REVERSES!) Phil and Teds Promenade (Love it already….)

- BEST IN SHOW (not strollers):

- BabyGlowUSA: Sleepsuits and clothing that changes color when baby is          becoming dangerously overheated. SO clever.

- SUGARJACK: I liked them before I even saw them (see?) and after actually touching them I like them even more. The leather is soft as butter and each bag is seriously gorgeous.

With the exception of a couple of strollers I want to do more on later, this concludes my coverage of the ABC Show 2011. I’ll be there next year as well, and this time I am taking an assistant!!! Thanks to you all for your reading, and your comments and emails!! xxx

ABC Expo 2011: KINDERWAGON

Kinderwagon are a great little company, making double umbrella strollers on a single umbrella frame. The above is the Kinderwagon Hop, and has a combined weight limit of 80lbs (40lbs on each seat). The front seat can be used from 6 months on, and the rear second seat from 3 months and older- it has an almost full recline but not totally flat.

The weight of the Hop is 21lbs, and it comes in black and red. I think this is great solution for young twins, or two children close in age- excellent for traveling or when you don’t want to take up a lot of space. It comes standard with a cup holder, a rain cover and a matching diaper bag. It retails for $299.

The Kinderwagon Skip is a single umbrella stroller with a weight limit of 65lbs (!!!!) It is available in black and red, and also comes standard with a cup holder, rain cover and also a foot muff for keeping toes warm in winter. I fell in love with that GORGEOUS black and red bird design on the inside of the canopy, so pretty!

The Skip also has a bassinet available, so it is able to used from birth til… well…. with a weight limit of 65lbs you could probably take your kid to prom in it. Birth to Prom. ;)

The Skip also has a largish basket underneath and an adjustable handlebar. The bassinet is hard sided and retails for $159. The Skip itself retails for $329, so thats a total newborn+ set up for under $500. Definitely one to check out!!

ABC Expo 2011: MAMAS & PAPAS

I have a little bit of a crush on M&P, and always have. A Brit by birth, I have been following them in the UK for years, and was VERY excited when they came to the USA a few years back. This year they are dramatically expanding their US line, taking their strollers into smaller more boutique stores (the current models and styles will stay in BRU). A celebrity favorite, Mamas and Papas make fabulous strollers in some GORGEOUS colors.

Lets start with a newcomer to the US market- the Mylo. Yum.

The Mylo is a full sized luxury stroller and bassinet package. It has a weight limit of 50lbs, so quite high for a ‘high end’ stroller. The seat can face Mom or the world, and has a one hand recline. It can fold in one piece either rear or forward facing, or if you need it to be very compact, the seat can be removed and then its a very small space-taker-upper (official term, ‘space-taker-upper’) for apartment living or small truck spaces. The bassinet is hard sided and can be used as a stand alone bassinet for overnight sleeping and traveling.

As you can see from the photos, the Mylo has a lot of color matching accessories available, including a fabulous diaper bag and some lovely blankets. It will be launching in the US in February for $999. The Urbo was part of the original fleet brought to the states, but in 2012 there will be a few more color options. I loved this blue color, and the very pretty (and fashionable) plum next to it. The Urbo is a great little stroller that is both lightweight but full function. They have a 50lb weight limit and presently retail for $529. They are also compatible with either Maxi Cosi, Cybex Aton or Graco car seats.

The little sister to the Urbo is the Sola, who will also have their color range extended in 2012. My absolute favorite is this delicious denim with colorful stripes.

The Sola also has a weight limit of 50lbs, but only weighs 22lbs itself- a true lightweight! It is compatible with Graco, Peg Perego, Maxi Cosi and the Cybex Aton car seats. It is presently retailing for $419, SUCH a bargain! Of course, both the Urbo and Sola have reversible seats, large removable canopies and adjustable handlebars.

Mamas and Papas also have a huge fleet of lightweight umbrella options: The Trip, the Trek, the Tour, the Cruise and the Voyage. As you may be able to understand, my eyes began glassing over as the albeit wonderful PR rep started detailing the minute differences between all the five. Heres what I got: they come in levels from the Trip to the Voyage, to cover every lifestyle and budget. I also saw that they were very good looking. If you would like to read about the many differences between the many different styles, please see the Mamas and Papas website. If not, heres a cute photo of the Trip:

ABC Expo 2011: PEG PEREGO

Sorry I have been lazy with writing these reviews, there are just too many!

On to Peg Perego. Their entire stall was PACKED from wall to wall with so many pretty things, and I just ran behind the PR Rep trying desperately to keep up- so forgive me if I dont cover everything.

The first thing to catch my eye was the pretty new fabric line: denim. It is a lovely soft, pliable denim- not thick and tough like denim jeans. The strollers below are (L-R): The Switch, the Skate, the Skate bassinet and the P4.

and they have these cute little button details:

So this year the Pliko and the Pliko Switch have been updated and renamed the Pliko4 (P4) and Pliko Switch4 (S4). The old ‘double’ front wheel has been changed to a single wheel thats much easier to swivel and maneuver than the older style. It really IS easier to push, just like the little hangtag says. :) The 2012 S4 will now also come with the ‘boot’ which is basically a strange word for the little cover that goes across the top to either keep toes warm when in seat mode, or to cover the whole bassinet when in flat laying bassinet mode. AKA the picture above with the button. I am already a fan of the Switch because I think its SUCH a clever stroller- it folds umbrella style in forward and rear facing mode, including when its a bassinet. So I am even more in love now they have dropped a wheel to improve the push.

Other colors new for 2012 include ‘Boheme’ (red and black), Newmoon (Bella and Edward….. just kidding…. black and brown), Regata (blue and white grey), Southpole (black and grey) and the very sleek Pois Black (black on black polka dots). All these colors are available as Primo Viaggio infant seats, the rest are mixed and matched between their stroller models.

They also had a new stroller called the Peg Perego Book, coming to the USA in Spring 2012. So named for its ‘open and close like a book’ design, I wasn’t a huge fan. Looked a bit cheap and not very Peg Perego-ish.

A side note: Peg Perego is one of the very few companies left who still have homeland pride in their products. Made in Italy for nearly 60 years, in the mid 2000′s they tried to see what would happen if they switched production to China. They weren’t happy with the quality of strollers being turned out with the Peg Perego name, so they withdrew and in 2007 they brought production back to Italy where they are still made today. Peg Perego make very well thought out, high quality baby gear- and for the people trying to avoid the ever present ‘Made in China’ sticker (and the quality that might come along with it)- Peg Perego is the way to go.

2011 ABC Expo: QUINNY and MAXI COSI

QUINNY!!!! Most exciting vendor of the whole show, in my opinion. SO much new stuff, new colors, new models, a new car seat, everything. LOVE.

First and foremost, this sexy little newcomer- the Quinny Moodd. Oooooh, she’s pretty. Except that weird little tummy bar thing but it can be removed so I don’t care. The Moodd is basically a pimped up Quinny Buzz. It retains the shape of the chassis and the one piece fold (and of course the signature self-unfold) of the Buzz, but brings in a stunning new seat. The seat back is a hard shell, and the canopy is much improved on the Buzz by being easier to open and close and having better coverage. The seat fabric is soft and lovely and the whole thing is just so PRETTY. Also, this post will apparently be sponsored by my caps lock key. AWESOME.

The Moodd will come in lots of colors (don’t quote me on any of them, I totally forgot to ask in the midst of my excitement) including the tan in the top picture, the blue you can see here, and the rest you can spy in any other pictures. Yeah, my organization totally went out the window in the Quinny booth. It will also be available in a white or balck high gloss frame. Some strollers cannot pull off this new black/ colored frame fad, and some can. Quinny can. I did try hard to scratch the frame with my nails (sorry, Quinny representatives who might be reading this….) and it seemed very durable. All black. Sleekness. The Moodd will retail for $699, will be compatible with all available Buzz accessories and is available in late winter/ early Spring.

Around the display I was admiring all the gorgeous new colors of Maxi Cosi Micos and then the rep said “Oh yeah, look at this!” and showed me that wall. Thats the 2012 Mico line up and its oh so colorful and yummy. That off white in the top right hand corner is LUSH. Also, the hot pink shown above on the white Moodd. Sure, you could get the black on black on black, but why would you want to?

Speaking of car seats, this is the new Maxi Cosi Prezi. Its very luxurious and a lot different to the Mico. It will retail for $229-$249 and will of course work with all Maxi Cosi adaptors.

No changes to the Buzz or the Zapp, just lots and lots of delicious new colors. Including the special edition ‘Q Design’ Series as seen above. You’re either going to love it or hate it. Very colorful.

I fell in insta-love with the above soft off white with light tan shown in the Buzz and Zapp Xtra. So elegant and understated.

And then these as well. All good.

Definitely looking forward to seeing the Quinny stuff hit stores, especially the Moodd. If you like color and one of a kind design, keep Quinny in mind! THE END. <— and the end of the caps lock key. BYE!

ABC Expo 2011: BUMBLERIDE

Continuing in their tradition of making gorgeous, bright colors choices, for 2012 Bumbleride are introducing this lovely turquoise blue in their Indie and Indie Twins.

Very pretty.

Otherwise, the news was really limited to the Bumbleride Indie Twin now being able to accept two infant car seats. Each car seat adapter will retail for $35, and is great new for parents of infant twins (or those who are expecting them!). This set up looked great…. I wish they had these available when I had my twins!

Bumbleride made a lot of changes to their line up in 2011, so 2012 is just a continuation of that. :)

2011 ABC Expo: APRICA

AKA The Brand That Broke My Heart.

Not much to say, they weren’t allowing pictures and I probably wouldn’t have taken any even if I could. Aprica have somehow connected to Graco (bought out? Merged? Joined design forces?) and the affect definitely shows. Their new stroller, the ‘Moto’ is basically a Graco Metrolite with an Aprica sticker on it. They are still keeping the Presto, and the 2012 version will be able to take a car seat.

That’s all.

Sigh.

ABC Expo 2011: UPPABABY

Front and center of the ‘New Product’ showcase is the long awaited UPPABABY Cruz.

The Cruz is basically a small Vista, taking their hugely popular stroller and trimming it down for something more compact.  The Cruz has a full sized reversible seat that is the same size as the Vista and has a five-position recline that can be done with one hand.  It has an easy one step fold, and can be folded with or without the seat attached.  Just like the Vista, it has a large spf 50 UV sunshade and is also compatible with an infant seat.
The Cruz is compatible from birth with the infant snugseat as you can see in the above picture. :)
At 21 inches, it is narrower than the Vista, and it does not have a bassinet option or the ability to take a second seat. The wheels are smaller, but have enough suspension to still handle bumps or very light terrain. The Cruz has a weight limit of 50 lbs.
The UppaBaby Cruz will be available in Denny (red), Jake (black), Sydney (yellow), and Tyler (Ice Blue) and will retail for $459. Its coming soon, in November 2011!
They also had these super cute stroller blankets that hook onto the tummy bar and keep tootsies warm without the big bulkiness of a foot muff. VERY cute. Another cute piece of information: All the names of UppaBaby colors are from the baby names of UppaBaby employees! How cool would it be to push little Sydney around in the stroller named after her? Must look into producing stroller to name after my own children…..
There are a few small changes to the Vista for model year 2012. As you can see, sleek sexy black frames are all the rage for almost every stroller brand this year, so I hope you like them!  ;) Also a new color seen above, which is a tangerine orange color named Drew. UppaBaby will be releasing their black frames in Drew and the all black version. UppaBaby have shortened the seat back (?) but they’ve raised the canopy to compensate for the lost height. The Vista will now have a total recline, making it suitable from birth- but please still use your bassinet! ;)
If you would like to win a new Uppababy Cruz (or $500), you can enter their “Where do you Cruz” through the UppaBaby website. You have to design or download a picture of UppaBaby’s flower logo and take a picture of your family with it, somewhere where you would ‘Cruz’ with your new Cruz. See all the details at UppaBaby Facebook. :)

ABC Expo 2011: iCandy.

I LOVE iCandy. They are the perfect blend of gorgeous style and Mama and Baby friendly function. Celebrities love their iCandy’s, and they are huge in the UK already. The first stroller I want to talk about is this ground breaking newbie for 2012: The iCandy Peach Jogger. Its pretty, its functional and IT CAN ACTUALLY BE JOGGED WITH. I repeat, this is not a ‘jogger’ by name alone, its actually a jogging stroller. And its an stunning every day, in the mall, going to playgroup stroller as well. This is definitely the first rear facing jogging stroller available in the USA. The weight has been carefully distributed so as not to tip or topple during a run. An adjustable handlebar, quick and easy fold, this just might be the perfect answer for the Moms who want something to exercise with and also a cute every day stroller as well.

The Peach Jogger will be available in the above ‘Glacier’, ‘Blackberry’ (all black) and ‘Cranberry’ (a rich red).

This is the new iCandy Strawberry. Its a lightweight, forward and rear facing stroller that has a total weight of 25lbs. Its very cute, but the best thing about it is the fold. Designed with post c-section Moms in mind, or any Moms that cant bend over to fold or pick up a stroller, the Strawberry folds UPWARDS towards Mom, rather than to the ground. Its all a one hand fold, and it stands by itself. As a c-section Mama myself, this really seemed like a good idea. The frame is so light you can put it in the back of the car one handed.

The Strawberry will be released in the four colors you see below- grey, black, red and a lush purple color. Also, there will be lots of available accessories, like the matching diaper bags and bassinets.
